Age of Empires II is real time Strategy game, meaning that everyone is going at once. This is now the second Age of Empires game, the graphics are low quality. You get your pick from a few different early Civilizations from around the Middle Ages. Each civilization has a few of its own specialized units.
There is a campaign in this game as well I’m still not much of a fan of it though. It’s a lot more fun than in the first game but it isn’t quite there yet.
Like in the first Age of Empires game you get to build your own maps and scenarios. So when you’re done playing what is already built in, expand on the game yourself. Create your own challenges and adventures.
One of my favorite parts to this game is that you can actually interact with the AIs more. So you can give commands to your allies, threaten your enemies and they respond back to you. This is by far one of the best features.
In this game you have more control on what your troops do and how they fight. You can also set up where your troops will go to once they have been created. Unlike in the first game where the troops are created and then respond next to the building in which they are created in. In addition, you now ihave a button that alows you to find if idle workers.
You can set how low or high you want the population to be. So now you can set your population anywhere from 25 to 200 and best of all each unit still only counts as one towards the overall population. So that means bigger and badder armies on the field. It really gets no better than this.
One of my favorite parts of this game is the multi player. There are still those out there that play this game online or on our own personal networks. If you every get a few copies of this game I recommend playing a few games with friends. You’ll love it.
So one of the issues I have with this game are the graphics they kind of such. But with how everything else in the game is, I guess you have to make some sacrifices.
Quick note if you run this game on any operation system later than vista you’re going to have issues with colors, mostly with the color of water (I know right vista is still good for something). The water tends to go blood red; it’s cool at first but gets annoying fast. Plus everything gets really pixilated. The color issue is because Microsoft changed the way they do colors on their operation systems. There is a way around it, by creating a batch file and running that. You’ll have to get that somewhere else since I don’t have it anymore (my laptop runs vista). Sometimes the batch file works other times it doesn’t, mostly depends on your settings.
For everything that this game has to offer. I give this game 4 out of 5.
